Word of fake iPhone 5 jailbreak activities, one of which asked for money, comes on the heels of GottaBeMobile’s look at iPhone 5 jailbreak sites that promise an iPhone 5 jailbreak for $25.

International Digital Times wraps up the fake iOS 6 jailbreak fracas, digging in to the history behind @JHerthop and @Defiant6 and their separate iOS 6 jailbreak schemes.

The first iOS 6 jailbreak scheme comes from Twitter user @JHerthop who claimed to be working on an iOS 6 jailbreak, but was also found to be looking for apps that allowed jailbreak like tweaks without being jailbroken. More recently, @JHerthop started asking followers for donations to start a website for his Claash jailbreak tool. The request for payments prompted users to ask for proof.

This is where the tale begins to unravel. After a variety of excuses, @JHerthop’s scheme comes apart when @MuscleNerd calls him out for using XCode to create a fake iOS 6 jailbreak video. After much attention, @JHerthop tweeted the following explanation for his actions.

I was paid to fake this to show people not to trust jailbreaks that aren’t from the devs I’m a nice person just teaching a lesson. Sorry!

MuscleNerd wasn’t one, turning attention to @Defiant6 of the BlackW1dow hacking team. @Defiant6 claimed a working iOS 6 jailbreak, tweeting a photo of an iPod Touch that was meant to serve as proof of a working iOS 6 jailbreak tool. in reality, it served as proof that @Defiant6 and the BlackW1dow team were not in possession of an iOS 6 jailbreak tool.
