Flipping Properties and Parties
I was invited to a party the other night and having a vague knowledge of the party hosts, I really didn't feel like attending.
The fact of the matter is that I have been asked to go to functions just like this in the past where I don’t know the hosts, but at my girl friend's insistence, of course I end up in attendance.
How come I did not want to go?
I had, in my mind, created a false sense of fear of attending…without any real basis in reality.
I had imagined myself standing awkwardly in the corner, desperately trying to find something to talk about with the people who were there - and no matter how hard I tried, I struggled to make a connection. I never was able to find something that I could talk to other people easily about, the conversations always seemed so awkward, I always seemed to have an unenjoyable time.
This was how I had pictured myself at this party.
Haven't most of us, at least at some point in time, felt like this?
To be specific, these types of events are the ones you go to where you think to yourself that you would rather be at the dentist than suffering through this agonizing torture….
But what if I had tried to simply picture and expect a different and better outcome?
Instead of sitting there, alone and miserable…imagine if I had pictured being engaged in a great experience, surrounded by awesome and interesting people very interested in me, who I was, where I was from and what I did, engaging in lively interesting conversation, with wonderful music playing nicely in the background, very relaxed and at ease, enjoying myself and my new found friends?
How about if I had expected an experience more in tune with the above mentioned party, do you think I would have still wanted to not attend the event?
